Liverpool FC Summer Transfer Targets – Full Breakdown
Striker Options:
Alexander Isak remains Liverpool’s dream target up front, but Newcastle are reluctant to sell. With two games remaining, their push for Champions League qualification is crucial-if they secure a top-four spot, there’s virtually no chance Isak leaves. However, failure to qualify could open the door for negotiations.
More realistic striker options include Hugo Ekitike (Eintracht Frankfurt) and Benjamin Šeško (RB Leipzig) . Both players finish their seasons today. Frankfurt still have a chance to qualify for the Champions League, which could drive up Ekitike’s price-possibly even beyond Šeško’s. Both are young and full of potential, though each comes with a level of risk.
A wildcard option is Julián Álvarez of Atlético Madrid. While there are no current links, he would be a top-tier signing. However, having only recently joined, Atlético would be unwilling to sell, and any deal would likely cost around £120m.
Attacking Midfield (CAM) Options:
Florian Wirtz is the dream target for the central attacking midfield role. Bayern Munich are seen as the favourites, but Bayer Leverkusen do not want to sell to a direct domestic rival. Additionally, Bayern may not have the financial capacity to pull off the deal. The final decision will come down to Wirtz-if he chooses Liverpool, the club will move decisively to sign him.
Xavi Simons is a more realistic alternative, valued at around £65m. The Dutch international has impressed at Leipzig, whose season ends today.
Rayan Cherki is another option, potentially available for just £25m. However, despite his raw talent, there are well-documented concerns about his attitude and work rate, which may give Liverpool pause.
Left-Back Options:
Milos Kerkez is Liverpool’s top left-back target. Bournemouth’s current £45m valuation has made the club hesitate. With two games left to play, Bournemouth still have a shot at European qualification. If they miss out, the price could drop-or Liverpool may simply be waiting out of respect for the ongoing season before making a move.
Jorrel Hato is another name in the frame. Capable of playing both centre-back and left-back, his versatility is attractive. It’s unclear which position Liverpool would use him in, but reports suggest he has been considered a backup option to both Kerkez and Dean Huijsen. Nonetheless, he remains on the radar.
Right-Back Target:
Jeremie Frimpong is expected to complete a move following Leverkusen’s final match today. He is also Florian Wirtz’s best friend, which could aid Liverpool’s pursuit of both players.
Centre-Back and Defensive Midfield Targets:
Liverpool are also admirers of Crystal Palace duo Marc Guéhi (CB) and Adam Wharton (CDM), both of whom are English and attracting significant interest across the Premier League. Guéhi has one year left on his contract and is likely to be sold. Palace are determined to keep Wharton, who has been a standout since joining. However, today’s FA Cup final could be pivotal-if Palace win and qualify for Europe, they may refuse to sell or increase their asking prices.
