After their 2-2 draw with Freiburg this afternoon, Leverkusen midfielder Granit Xhaka tipped his hat to newly crowned Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich.
“Congratulations to Bayern Munich. I think they played an amazing campaign,” Xhaka said whilst chatting to DAZN.
“We tried until the end, unfortunately it wasn’t enough, but we’ll definitely attack again next season,” the Swiss international added.
Die Werkself’s head coach Xabi Alonso also chimed in with praise for the Bavarian club whom he represented in his playing days.
“Congratulations to FC Bayern. They were the best and more consistent team. They deserved the title this year,” he said.
As for their performance in Breisgau, Alonso explained how it was a mixed bag with some negatives and positives to take from it.
“We started the first 15-20 minutes well and had good control. After that, we had too many easy turnovers and Freiburg did well.
“I always tell my players that 2-0 is a dangerous lead. Anything can happen after a goal. After Flo’s [Wirtz] goal we had a another chance and Jona [Tah] scored the second,” Alonso explained.
