Speaking at his press conference in the build up to their game with Borussia Dortmund, Xabi Alonso confirmed his time is up at Leverkusen.
“The club and I have agreed that these two games will be my last as Bayer Leverkusen coach,” he said.
Speculation over the Spaniard’s departure started to circle again this morning after Sky Germany reported on the potential decision.
The 43-year-old has been linked with a move to Real Madrid for some time now, and although nothing is confirmed, that could be his destination.
Alonso achieved greatness in his 138 games with Die Werkself across two and a half seasons.
In his 138 games to date, he managed 89 wins, 31 draws and just 18 losses, whilst winning the Bundesliga and DfB Pokal double in 2023-24.
